Seminar 2010 "Application in Preaching"

The first half of the Christian Education Committee's sixth annual seminiar was presented on Thursday, March 18, 2010, in conjunction with the spring stated meeting of the Presbytery of the Midwest. The topic was “Application in Preaching” with the Rev. Doug Clawson was speaker. Rev. Clawson was ordained in the OPC November of 1984. He served as an evangelist for two and a half years at Grace OPC in Sewickley, Pennsylvania before being called to be the pastor of Grace OPC in Hanover Park, Illinois, where he served for fifteen years. In July 2002, he began his service with the Committee on Foreign Missions of the OPC as its Associate General Secretary, and is currently installed as an evangelist. In addition to sharing the responsibilities of visiting our missionaries on the field with the General Secretary, he coordinates the candidates process of the Committee and visits to potential exploratory fields. In addition to filling pulpits in OP churches here in North America, Rev. Clawson frequently preaches on foreign fields.

The second half of the Christian Education Committee's sixth annual seminiar will be presented on Thursday, September 16, 2010, in conjunction with the fall stated meeting of the Presbytery of the Midwest. The topic will be “Preaching with Experiential and Practical Application.” with the Dr. Joel R. Beeke speaking. Dr. Beeke is president and professor of systematic theology and homiletics at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary, a pastor of the Heritage Netherlands Reformed Congregation in Grand Rapids, Michigan, editor of Banner of Sovereign Grace Truth, editorial director of Reformation Heritage Books, president of Inheritance Publishers, and vice-president of the Dutch Reformed Translation Society. He has written, co-authored, or edited sixty books (most recently, Living for the Glory of God: An Introduction to Calvinism, Meet the Puritans, Contagious Christian Living, Reformation Heroes, Calvin for Today, Walking as He Walked, and Striving Against Satan), and contributed fifteen hundred articles to Reformed books, journals, periodicals, and encyclopedias. His Ph.D. is in Reformation and Post-Reformation theology from Westminster Theological Seminary.

The Christian Education Committee's fifth annual seminiar was presented on Thursday, March 19, 2009, in conjunction with the spring stated meeting of the Presbytery of the Midwest. The topic this year was “John Calvin’s Life and Legacy” The speaker, Dr. Cornelis Venema, is President and Professor of Doctoral Studies at Mid-America Reformed Seminary. Spring Seminar 2008 "Retaining Our Covenant Youth"

The Christian Education Committee's forth annual seminiar was presented on Thursday, March 13, 2008, in conjunction with the spring stated meeting of the Presbytery of the Midwest. The topic this year was “Retaining Our Covenant Youth.” The speaker, Mr. David Winslow, has been a ruling elder at Westminster OPC in Westminster, CA since 1982. He has served on the Youth Committee of the Presbytery of Southern California for twenty-five years. He has also served on the OPC's Committee on Christian Education and its ministerial training sub-committee for nineteen years. He has helped organize many youth mission trips and led summer backpacking trips for OPC youth for nearly three decades. Click on the following links to hear audio files of the presentations:

Spring Seminar 2006: "Staying the Course - Encouragement for Ministry"

The Christian Education Committee's second annual seminiar was presented on Thursday, March 16, 2006, in conjunction with the spring stated meeting of the Presbytery of the Midwest. The topic this year was “Staying the Course - Encouragement for Ministry.” The speakers were Rev. Richard Gerber and Rev. Ross Graham, two men of the OPC’s Committee on Home Missions and Church Extension. After the two presentations, there was a panel discussion which included both the speakers as well as four men of our presbytery with more than a couple years under their belt.
